I am not an Episcopalian but I am going to add my two cents to the discussion. The Archbishop cannot have it both ways. Either he is genuinely supportive of the liberal notion that gay couples can form unions which are every bit as acceptable to God as heterosexual marriages. Alternatively, he can condemn gays and place moratoria on their acceptance as Bishops or as spouses. He cannot, however, claim both positions simultaneously. I tend to believe that the Archbishop favors gay marriage and bishops, but is afraid of the church splintering. He is pandering to both sides and may end up losing them in the end.
